Cannon Beach, Oregon
 August 2027

Join us for an unforgettable week of plein air painting on the breathtaking Pacific Coast as we launch our very first West Coast Painting Retreat. Set against the dramatic landscapes of Cannon Beach, Oregon, this immersive experience invites artists to paint, explore, and connect with nature in one of the most iconic coastal environments in the United States.

A Landscape Shaped by Time and Magic

Cannon Beach’s legendary Haystack Rock rises from the shoreline as a testament to ancient volcanic formations shaped 15–17 million years ago. Today, it stands as a protected marine sanctuary known for its tide pools, vibrant sea life, and nesting puffins — and it will be one of our primary painting inspirations throughout the retreat.

We will also venture into the rugged beauty of Ecola State Park, where sweeping cliffs, forested headlands, waterfalls, lakes, and tidal pools create dramatic vistas unlike anywhere else in the country. From luminous sunsets to mist-filled mornings, every moment offers a new atmospheric painting experience.

Retreat Highlights

  • Multiple plein air painting sessions at Cannon Beach and surrounding coastal vistas

  • Visits to waterfalls, lakes, tidal pools, and Oregon’s most scenic state parks

  • Exploration of charming artistic coastal towns

  • A day trip to Portland, Oregon’s vibrant cultural hub

  • An inspiring excursion to Mount Hood near the Columbia River, where we’ll paint a reflective alpine lake framed by wildflowers and mountain views

  • A peaceful day in the countryside with a Willamette Valley wine tour, lunch, sketching, and watercolor journaling among world-class vineyards

Travel & Accommodations

This seven-day retreat runs Monday to Monday. We will fly in and out of Portland, Oregon, and travel together by rental car to each destination. Participants are encouraged to form small buddy groups for shared accommodations in hotels, Airbnbs, or VRBOs — we will coordinate these arrangements together to create a comfortable and supportive community atmosphere.
