Color Theory - Color Matching
Course Description
Color Theory – Color Matching Course Thursdays, 6:00-8:00pm starting October 30 - December 11 (No class on November 27) This is a brand-new Color Theory course that starts at the very beginning. We will focus on why it's essential not only to understand color theory, but also how to mix and apply color directly onto your painting. I am designing a series of courses, and this will be the first in the sequence—each future course will build upon the last. In this course, we will begin with a foundational understanding of the primary colors and explore their critical role in color mixing. Our primary focus will be Color Matching, one of the most valuable skills for accurately observing and recreating the colors we see. You are welcome to use whatever painting medium you feel most comfortable with; however, I will be demonstrating primarily in oils. I will emphasize the importance of using the exact paint colors I recommend—for example, Ultramarine Blue has specific properties that differ significantly from Primary Blue, and these distinctions matter. Each class will center on a specific concept in color theory and apply it directly to an image that I will provide. This hands-on, visual learning approach will help reinforce the lesson and make the concepts more memorable and applicable to your own work. This promises to be a fun, fulfilling, and informative course series that will not only enhance your technical skills but also build your confidence as an artist. We’ll be creating 5x7 and 6x8 oil painting studies in a step-by-step format. There will be no class on November 27. Zoom links and reference images will be emailed prior to each weekly session.
